Praise of the Buddha

'What else, indeed, have I learned from the masters who taught me, the philosophers I have read, the societies I have visited and even from that science which is pride of the West, apart from a few scraps of wisdom which, when laid end to end, coincide with the meditation of the Sage at the foot of the tree?'

A night before EDA egg-jam!

Following images are part of HW-solutions posted by Prof. Paul Griffin!

solution-griffin-for blog

I am having a real hard time deciphering his writing. On top of it such incomplete solutions! *sigh*

griffin 2

Prof. Griffin had messed up one of the solutions. Above is the note he included in the corrected solutions! Of course, no one was able to read what was written in the note!

Can anyone help? I am guessing he admits he made a mistake but only because he worked on the solution on Monday morning.

Will or Eccentricity? Whatever it is..I am thoroughly impressed!

"The man who is born to be a dictator is not compelled. He wills it. He is not driven forward, but drives himself. There is nothing immodest about this. Is it immodest for a worker to drive himself toward heavy labor? Is it presumptuous of a man with the high forehead of a thinker to ponder through the nights till he gives the world an invention? The man who feels called upon to govern a people has no right to say, 'If you want me or summon me, I will cooperate.' No! It is his duty to step forward."

Solitude

Past is a lie, memory has no return. Every spring gone by can never be recovered. And the wildest and most tenacious love is an ephemeral truth in the end.

Congratulations to a critic

To see with one's own eyes, to feel and judge without succumbing to the suggestive power of the fashion of the day, to be able to express what one has seen and felt in a trim sentence or even in a cunningly wrought word- is that not glorious? It is not a proper subject for congratulation?

Conundrum....of Life!!

Can life be that simple? Can it be summed up so easily? Or are there more shades to it? Is reality just a myth or are there tangible joys and sorrows?

The Living Past

The past is never dead. It’s not even past. All of us labor in webs spun long before we were born, webs of heredity and environment, of desire and consequence, of history and eternity. Haunted by wrong turns and roads not taken, we pursue images perceived as new but whose providence dates to the dim dramas of childhood, which are themselves but ripples of consequence echoing down the generations. The quotidian demands of life distract from this resonance of images and events, but some of us feel it always.
